13 Jun 2025

On June 13, 2025, Indorama-Nigeria celebrated World Environment Day, reaffirming its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, as announced by Chief Technical Officer Deepu Sivadas. Themed #BeatPlasticPollution, the event highlighted the company’s sustainability goals, targeting a 26,000-tonne emissions cut by 2026.

Sivadas noted that 73% of greenhouse gas emissions come from energy, urging stricter Paris Accord compliance.

The finale, moderated by Toyin Olansebe, featured key figures like A.B. Rao, A.K. Sharma, and guest speaker Engr. Ewunee Confidence Dumka, who advocated sustainable waste management. Participants recited the Indorama Environment Pledge, committing to eco-friendly practices. Representatives from NESREA, NOSDRA, and other agencies delivered goodwill messages, reinforcing collaborative environmental efforts.

Pre-finale activities included tree planting, an environmental quiz, a green marathon, and a speech competition on plastic pollution. Over 4,000 participants, including students from eight host community schools, engaged in awareness programmes. Competitions like model-making with plastic waste and a slogan contest involved employees’ families, with prizes awarded to winners.

A highlight was Francis Okwuoha’s winning speech and tree planting by leaders, symbolizing Indorama’s green commitment. The event underscored the company’s resolve to combat plastic pollution and climate change through innovation, regulation, and community engagement, paving the way for a sustainable future.
