CSR: Indorama delivers Health Centre, skill empowerment to host communities’ youths
03 Feb 2025

Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited has reinforced its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment by delivering two impactful projects in Rivers State: a modern Primary Health Centre in Okerewa community and a skill acquisition program for youths in Onne and Ogu. These initiatives, which aligned with UN SDGs 3 and 8, promote health, economic growth, and sustainable development in host communities. In Okerewa, Indorama constructed a state-of-the-art health centre to serve over 1,000 residents, reducing travel for medical care. Led by Mr. Kendrick Oluka, head of Community Relations and Development department, the project incorporated expert input from Dr. Basu, head of medical, resulting in upgrades like an elevator and wheelchair-accessible ramp for inclusivity. The facility symbolizes Indorama’s dedication to lasting healthcare improvements. Concurrently, Indorama trained 24 youths from Onne and Ogu in skills like scaffolding, steel fixing, household product manufacturing, and hairdressing. Each participant received a certificate, start-up kit, and mentorship to foster self-employment. “We’re transforming lives,” said Esther Anga of community relations department, highlighting the programme’s focus on sustainable livelihoods. These initiatives address immediate needs while building long-term prosperity. The health centre enhances access to quality care, and the skill programme empowers youths economically, reflecting Indorama’s holistic approach to community development. Together, these efforts create a legacy of impact, fostering healthier, self-reliant communities and demonstrating Indorama’s commitment to sustainable growth in Rivers State.
