House Committee on Public Assets Praises Indorama’s Port Operations
16 May 2025

On May 16, 2025, the House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets, led by Chairman Hon. Ademorin Kuye, visited Indorama’s Port Operations (OIPL) at Onne Port, Rivers State, to evaluate its activities.

The delegation toured the urea export facility, guided by senior Indorama officials, including Mr. Sanjay Garg (Head of OIPL), Mr. Clifford Osagie (Head of Legal), Dr. Jossy Nkwocha (outgoing Head of Corporate Communications), and Mr. Justice Tienabeso Bibiye (incoming Head of Corporate Communications).

Mr. Garg welcomed the lawmakers and presented an overview of the facility, initially a $150 million investment, now expanded to $190 million. He highlighted its advanced capabilities, including jetty handling vessels up to 65,000 Deadweight Tonnage, storage for 78,000 tonnes of fertilizer, and two automated ship loaders with a 900-tonne capacity each.

He remarked that from 2016 to 2025, the facility exported nearly 10 million tonnes of urea globally, boosting Nigeria’s role in the international fertilizer market, enhancing GDP, and improving foreign exchange earnings. Indorama also supports food security with over 50 agronomists and a nationwide urea distribution network.

Garg noted challenges, including no night navigation, poor access roads, and the need for a wider marine channel and deeper port draft, appealing to the committee to assist in facilitating solutions. The committee inquired about Indorama’s CSR initiatives outside its host communities, receiving satisfactory responses. Hon. Kuye praised Indorama’s economic contributions and urged continued efforts to address challenges while fostering growth.
