Indorama Moves to Position Senegal as an Emerging Global Fertilizer Hub
12 May 2025

Senegal is poised to become a global fertilizer hub, following high-level talks between its government and Indorama-Nigeria, Africa’s leading petrochemicals and fertilizer company. On May 12, 2025, Senegal’s Minister of Energy, Petroleum, and Mining, Birame Souleye Diop, led a delegation to Indorama’s Port Harcourt complex, aiming to replicate Nigeria’s fertilizer success in Senegal.

Indorama-Nigeria has transformed Nigeria into a top fertilizer exporter with two world-class plants, earning praise for its economic and social impact. Minister Diop commended Indorama’s innovative vision, urging the company to bring its expertise to Senegal. “We are eager to see something similar in Senegal,” he said during the visit.

The delegation, including key Senegalese officials like Papa Samba BA and Ibrahim Gassama, toured Indorama’s state-of-the-art facilities. Hosted by Managing Director Manish Mundra, the visit began with a safety briefing and a warm reception featuring a bouquet presentation by Eva Onyebuoha.

The guests were accompanied by top management staff of Indorama led by Manish Mundra on an extensive tour of key operational areas, including Train 1, where Efe America (Ammonia) and Eunice Adele (Urea) explained production processes, and Train 2 Control Room, where Joe Kurufuo and Joseph Edogbeji detailed operations using advanced monitoring systems.

At the Loading and Bagging section, Anderson Nwajeri and Appolos Osaro showcased automated fertilizer operations, while Lawrence Opusunju and Matthew Udoka guided the group through the PE Bagging area and Product Display Centre, illustrating the connection between Indorama’s products and their industrial and household applications. The delegation also toured Indorama’s export facility at Onne Port and its new projects under construction.

Indorama’s advanced operations, from production to logistics, impressed the delegation, highlighting its potential to drive Senegal’s industrialization. The visit underscores a shared commitment to boosting Africa’s fertilizer sector.

These discussions signal a strategic partnership, positioning Senegal as an emerging fertilizer powerhouse with Indorama’s proven expertise leading the way.
